Mr. Daly, a veteran music industry executive, began his career as a musician playing with famed guitarists Nils Lofgren and Roy Buchanan and is the co-author of many songs including the million-selling Slow-Dancer (made popular by many artists, including Boz Scaggs).First mentored by the music industry legend Clive Davis (currently head of RCA Music Group), Mr. Daly has over two decades of experience as a senior executive at the Majors including Columbia Records (Sony BMG), Elektra Records (WMG), Atlantic Records (WMG), and Zoo Entertainment (Bertelsmann Music Group). Mr. Daly also has worked directly with Doug Morris, then President of Atlantic Records and now Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Universal Music Group, and, as head of West Coast A&R, the legendary Ahmet Ertegun, founder and Chairman of Atlantic Records. The recipient of numerous Gold and Platinum awards, Mr. Daly discovered such original music talents as the seminal new-wave group The Cars, pop sensation The Tubes, modern edge rockers Tool, and the Multi-Platinum singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton. In addition, Mr. Daly has worked professionally with industry legends including The Eagles and Carlos Santana, as well as other famous musical artists.
Dan Sapp, Co-Founder Partner
Dan Sapp brings a life-long love of music and performance together with his experience as a successful management consultant and strategy advisor to some of Americas leading corporations and executives to his role as co-founder of About Records.
Even with his responsibilities at About, Dan continues to advise the Dean and the development team at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University on fund raising and strategic communication issues, In addition to the Stanford Business School, Mr. Sapp's current and recent clients include senior executives and leadership teams from Mellon Capital, Ernst & Young, Microsoft, Silicon Valley Bank, Nokia, Hellman & Friedman LLC, 3i, Standard Pacific Homes and many others.
Dan has lectured at Duke's Fuqua School of Business and at UC Berkeley's Haas Business School and has published a book on presenting to venture capitalists as well as numerous articles for both US and international business publications on the topic of leadership and strategic communication. Dan is currently working on a new book on the same topic.
Jason Cole, Director of Artist Relations and Development
Jason is a Northern California native who has spent over twenty years working in the San Francisco Bay Area music scene. Prior to joining About Records, Jason had worked in the music business in most every capacity including artist management, booking, promotion, A&R, publicity/PR, event planning as well as a professional musician. Through his production company MDM, Jason has vast experience working in the studio with developing artists, serving as producer, engineer, songwriter/collaborator, arranger, as well as session musician. Jason also brings with him extensive corporate legal business experience working with contracts, mergers & acquisitions, copyrights, trademarks and other intellectual property issues as well as litigation. And now he brings this business acumen as well as his passion and talent for creative music development to About.
Jason is currently co-writing and demoing songs with several promising new talents that he is developing for About Record's sister label TROVE Music.
Michael Regan, VP of Sales and Marketing
Mr. Regan has worked at three of the top record labels in the world during his 20 years in the music business, most recently as VP of Sales at Universal/MCA Records. At Universal/MCA, Mr. Regan ran all sales and field marketing functions for a $250 million operation and was responsible for the sales function for several independent Universal/MCA distributed labels including Drive Thru Records (Dashboard Confessional) and Rawkus Records (Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Blackstar). Prior to Universal/MCA, Mr. Regan held senior marketing and new media positions at A&M Records where he conceived and executed marketing plans for bands including Blues Traveler (6 million units), Bryan Adams (2 million units), and the Gin Blossoms (3 million units) as well as the annual H.O.R.D.E tour. Mr. Regan began his career at Columbia/CBS Records, focusing on the local marketing of CBS artists in the New York City market.
David Malloy, VP Nashville
Nashville's David Malloy is the recipient of an extraordinary forty Number One Billboard Awards. In Mr. Malloy's own words, "I believe in the power of a good song in the hands of an inspired artist." His work has included veteran country greats such as Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Rodney Crowell, Tanya Tucker, and Rosanne Cash. In addition, Mr. Malloy has discovered and developed many new artists who have gone on to sell millions of records, such as newcomers Billy Gilman, Andy Griggs, Darle Singletary, Jeff Bates and Mindy McCready. As the son of one of the top recording engineers in the world (Malloy's father recorded over 5,000 records for over 150 artists ranging from Elvis Presley to Frank Sinatra), Mr. Malloy is conversant in both Country and Pop and understands how to bring them together to achieve volume record sales. Mr. Malloy won his first BMI country songwriters award at the age of 15, and at the age of 18 he won again for Then You Walk In. After numerous early successes writing for, recording, and producing Eddie Rabbitt, Mr. Malloy worked in the A&R department of Columbia/Epic Records and then ran the Nashville division of Electra Records. Most recently, Mr. Malloy was a producer at Electra Records in Los Angeles.
