Founder George Daly and the rest of us at About Records have chosen to focus the label, quite simply, on the discovery and development of great performers - great songs. While our initial artists fall somewhere under the wide musical umbrella being called "New Acoustic," About Records is seeking out artists and bands that express themselves with songs that connect and create change. Not limited to any category, Daly and the rest of the team understand the industries ability to influence both popular culture and the culture at large depend on "great, not just good". Long a hot-bed for original and genuine music, our location, just North of San Francisco, gives us access to several of the richest and yet under developed breeding grounds for the undiscovered and we welcome the challenge of moving the heart beat of the business North and West; where it belongs. Meanwhile, our proximity to the birthplace of the technologies that continue to change the music business brings us community partners who will continue to keep us at the forefront of those global changes.
While Mr. Daly's record in the pop world and associations with many well-known artists, including the Cars, Carlos Santana, The Tubes, Mathew Sweet, Vanessa Carleton, Tool, etc., clearly demonstrates an ear for talent and success, the company has also allied itself with some of the industries historically great producers who have helped create major hit records for earlier stars. About's producers have produced for Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Rosanne Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen and The Band to name only a few. This world-class roster of producers brings both the benefit of name brand experience and the renewed enthusiasm of these established professionals to record and release the next generation of special music talent. About sees its artists not as product but as a partner. Our commitment to work with our artists individually and openly provides the elements in a relationship necessary in creating great music. With local sensations Tim Hockenberry and Larkin Gayle on the label and both deep into production About will complete production as early as first quarter of '07. With discussion underway from several other compelling artists, About has begun to make a profound and important mark on the popular music scene.
